Criminal Records Check (CRC)

This check is intended for applicants who are involved as a volunteer, employee or in any situation where a basic CRC is requested (e.g., retail or immigration). This check is NOT intended for applicants who are seeking volunteer and/or employment with vulnerable persons.

NOTE: Police Services do not have the authority to run a query of the investigative databank (10-29) for this level of check.




The Police Criminal Record Check will include the following information:
  1. Criminal convictions from CPIC and/or local databases.
  2. Summary convictions, for five years, when identified.
  3. Findings of Guilt under the Youth Criminal Justice Act within the applicable disclosure period.
  4. Outstanding entries, such as charges, warrants, and probation. As per CPIC policy, information obtained from the Investigative Databank must be confirmed and authorized for release by the contributing agency.
  5. Absolute and conditional discharges for 1 or 3 years respectively, if applicable.


The Police Criminal Record Check WILL NOT include:
  1. Absolute and conditional discharges, when completed
  2. Current judicial orders, including Peace Bonds and Prohibition orders under the Criminal Code of Canada
  3. Convictions where a record suspension (pardon) has been granted
  4. Convictions under provincial statutes (i.e. Highway Traffic Act, Trespass to Property Act, Liquor Licence Act)
  5. Local police contact
  6. Ministry of Transportation information (PARIS)
  7. Special Interest Police (SIP) category of CPIC
  8. Family Court Restraining Orders
  9. Foreign information
  10. A Vulnerable Sector (VS) Query to ascertain if the applicant has been convicted of and granted a record suspension for any of the sexual offences that are listed in the schedule to the Criminal Records Act (CRA)
  11. Any reference to incidents involving mental health contact
  12. Diversions will not be released as police contact and no reference to the occurrence is permitted (CC S. 717.4)
  13. Youth Criminal Justice Act (YCJA) information beyond applicable disclosure period
