If it has been five (5) years (summary offence) or ten (10) years (indictable offence), since you completed your last sentence and all fines, surcharges, costs, restitution and compensation orders have been paid, you may apply to the Parole Board of Canada for a Record Suspension.

NOTE: there have been recent changes to eligibility criteria that may or may not affect you. The Parole Board of Canada has listed answers to Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) on their website to help you to determine if you are affected by these changes. Record Suspension Application Booklets may be downloaded from the Parole Board of Canada website at http://pbc-clcc.gc.ca/prdons/servic-eng.shtml. This booklet outlines the steps to follow and contains instructions on each of the steps.

The first step in the process is to obtain a copy of your Criminal Record from the RCMP in Ottawa by the submission of your fingerprints. Individuals in London requiring fingerprinting for a Record Suspension may attend the Commissionaires (Great Lakes) office located at #14-1112 Dearness Drive, London. Hours of operation are Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. We are closed on weekends and holidays. Phone: (519) 433-6763 ext. 224 (or 1-877-488-9370).

Note: The London Police Service does not offer fingerprinting for Record Suspension purpose.

When your fingerprints are received back from the RCMP, the Local Police Records Check in the Record Suspension Application Booklet must be taken to every police agency where the applicant has lived in the past 5 years. In London, the Local Police Records Check form with two pieces of valid government issued identification must be brought to the Records Screening Unit located at London Police Headquarters between the hours of 8:30am and 4:00pm on Monday to Friday. The Records Screening Unit of the London Police Service is closed on weekends and holidays.

The fee for the Local Police Records Check is $100.00.

If an applicant no longer lives in the London area and cannot attend in person, they may mail the Local Police Records Check form to the London Police Service, Records Screening Unit, Box 3415, London, Ontario N6A 4K9. A clear photocopy of two pieces of valid government issued identification (1 with photo) must accompany the form. The fee may be paid by certified cheque or money order payable to the London Police Service.

IMPORTANT NOTICE:
You do not need a lawyer or representative to apply for a Record Suspension. This will not accelerate the review of your applications or convey a special status on it. The Parole Board of Canada treats all applications in the same way.

You can apply for a Record Suspension by following the step-by-step instructions in the Record Suspension Application Booklet and submitting your completed application forms to the Parole Board of Canada along with the $644.88 processing fee made payable to the Receiver General for Canada.
