You must contact the local police service where the crime was committed for the records search portion of the record suspension application.
A Record Suspension (Pardon) application can be completed by individuals without the assistance of a lawyer or any other agency.
If it has been five (5) years (summary offence) or ten (10) years (indictable offence), since you completed your last sentence, you may apply to the Parole Board of Canada for a record suspension.
Record Suspension Application Booklets may be downloaded from the Parole Board of Canada website at Applying for a record suspension - Canada.ca.
Part of the application process involves submitting fingerprints. Please attend an accredited fingerprinting agency for this purpose.
When your fingerprints are received back from the RCMP, a copy of the Local Police Records Check form in the booklet must be taken to every police agency where you have lived in the past five (5) years.
In the Peterborough Police Service jurisdiction, you must make an appointment with the FOI Analyst to provide this documentation. There is a $50.00 fee for this service. For further information or to schedule an appointment, contact the FOI Analyst at (705) 876-1122, Ext. 213.
