Before you are eligible to apply for a Record Suspension, you must have completed your sentences and waited a certain period of time from the completion of your sentence(s). There have been changes to eligibility that may or may not affect you. The Parole Board of Canada has listed answers to ‘Frequently Asked Questions’ on their website to help you to determine if you are affected by these changes.

A person will NOT be eligible for a Record Suspension if they have been convicted of:
  1. a Schedule 1 offence (sexual offence involving a minor), and/or
  2. more than three offences prosecuted by indictment, each with a prison sentence of two years of more.
The Parole Board of Canada offers assistance through a toll free number on their website or by email. A Record Suspension (Pardon) application can be completed by individuals without the assistance of a lawyer or any other agency. A step-by-step guide can be found on the Parole Board of Canada’s website at: https://pbc-clcc.gc.ca/prdons/servic-eng.shtml

Please apply for a Local Police Records Check (LPRC) for a Record Suspension (pardon) here:
https://www.policesolutions.ca/checks/services/saultstemarielprc/?page=checks

The cost for a Local Police Records Check (LPRC) is $60.00.

Part of the application process involves submitting fingerprints. Please attend an accredited fingerprinting agency for this purpose. You can make an appointment with the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service as well at (705) 949-6300 ext. 326 and pay the applicable fees.
